Back on the Surface...

Varela waved goodbye to Kelsea's mom and walked into her home behind Papyrus and Mettaton, who'd come back very early that morning. She kicked off her boots, looked at the shoe rack, and noticed one thing.

"Hey, where'd Puncle Sans go? His slippers are still here, but his sneakers aren't," Varela stated. "Frisk's shoes aren't here, either."

"Yes, I've been wondering the same thing," Mettaton agreed.

"W-WELL, SANS SAID HIS PROFESSOR WANTED TO SEE HIM, BUT HE SAID HE'D COME BACK LATE LAST NIGHT!" Papyrus replied.

"Alphys was at the university last night, too. I'll try calling her, see if she could shed some light on this," Varela suggested, calling Alphys.

"H-hello?" Alphys asked.

"Hi, Miss Alphys. Papapyrus, Mommyton, and I were all wondering if you saw Sans with the quantum physics professor last night."

"P-professor Jupiter? N-no, he's sick, remember? Makes sense, since he's very old in human years."

"Okay, thanks Miss Alphys! Bye!" Varela hung up and looked at Mettaton and Papyrus. "He wasn't there because Professor Jupiter's sick."

"PAPYRUS," a voice only Papyrus could hear said.

"EVERYONE, QUIET DOWN. GASTER'S TALKING TO ME," Papyrus informed them.

"I KNOW WHERE SANS AND FRISK ARE."

"REALLY? WHERE?"

"THEY'RE ON THEIR WAY HERE, ACTUALLY." Gaster sighed. "I'M VERY WORRIED ABOUT SANS." Papyrus got confused. How is Gaster worried about Sans? He remembered talking to him about Sans only a few times. Was that really enough to get Gaster concerned?

"WHY? WHAT'S WRONG?" Before Gaster could answer, there was a loud BOOM! that echoed throughout the household.

I landed face-first on the couch. Sans, however, wasn't lucky. He was face-first on the ground.

"Ow," he groaned.

"Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to teleport. You didn't get much rest, after all," I reminded him.

"Right." He sat up, just as Papyrus hugged him from behind.

"BROTHER, WHERE WERE YOU?!" Papyrus asked. "YOU SAID YOUR PROFESSOR WANTED TO SEE YOU, BUT ALPHYS SAID YOU WEREN'T AT THE UNIVERSITY-"

"Woah, bro, I know that Professor Jupiter's sick. I went to his house because he wanted to talk to me about a few things. It was mostly if I knew anyone who could replace him if he ended up kicking the bucket." That wasn't part of the plan, mostly because I didn't know about Professor Jupiter being sick, but it was good.

"Sans, why don't you turn around?" Mettaton asked.

"But I'm tired," Sans whined. Papyrus made his angry face, which made it harder to not laugh.

"SANS, THIS IS NO TIME TO REVERT BACK TO YOUR LAZY WAYS!" Papyrus sighed. He tried to turn Sans around, but Sans let himself fall back to the ground. Papyrus picked him up, but Sans pulled his hood over his face and hung his head.

"Puncle Sans, take off your hood!" Varela ordered. "Let us see your face." Sans took out his phone and showed Papyrus, Mettaton, and Varela a selfie he took when Undyne took us all snowmobiling.

"SANS!" they all yelled. Sans snorted and I burst out laughing and clutched my sides.

"SANS, WE'RE BEING SERIOUS!" Papyrus exclaimed. Papyrus put his hand on Sans' hood.

"Wait, Pap-!" Sans was cut off when Papyrus yanked Sans' hood off his head. Mettaton, Varela, and Papyrus all gasped when they saw the cracks on his face. "Uh, surprise?"

The three of them were sent into full-panic mode. Varela dialed Alphys' number and yelled, "Miss Alphys! We need you over here, quick!"

Mettaton jumped up, ran into the kitchen, and said, "We must get his HP up as quickly as possible! Who knows how low it is now!"

Papyrus pulled Sans into a hug and asked, "BROTHER, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?!"

Before Sans could answer, I heard "Spear of Justice" playing faintly in the background. The door was knocked down and Undyne yelled, "WHERE'S THE DANGER?!" Undyne saw Sans' face and then yelled, "ALPHYS! HURRY UP! SANS COULD DUST ANY SECOND NOW!"

"Dust?!" I heard Alphys shriek. Alphys sprinted inside with a medical kit and looked over at Sans. She ran over and put the kit down.

"Guys!" Sans shouted. Everyone stopped and looked at him. "Look, I appreciate the concern, but I'm fine! I just fell on my way back here. I've definately had better trips." Nobdy reacted.

"LOOK, SANS, I KNOW YOU ALWAYS SAY YOU'RE FINE, BUT, I'M NOT SURE I BELIEVE THAT ANYMORE," Papyrus stated, tapping his index fingers together thrice. "EVEN GASTER'S WORRIED ABOUT YOU, AND HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW YOU THAT WELL!" I stared at Papyrus, shocked. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Sans tense up.

"Papyrus?" I asked as calmly as possible. "Who's Gaster?"

"GAASTER IS MY FRIEND. HE SAID HE'S LIKE A GHOST, BUT NOBODY CAN SEE HIM AND ONLY CERTAIN PEOPLE CAN HEAR HIM. GASTER SAID HE'S LIKE THIS BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT, BUT HE DOESN'T BLAME THE PERSON WHO CAUSED IT. HE'S VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY, TOO!" I breathed out through my nose, relieved. I saw Sans become less tense.

"Well, tell him it's very nice of him to be worried about me," Sans requested.

"OKAY, BROTHER!" Papyrus turned serious again. "ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU'RE OKAY?"

"I'm fine, you guys! Look, ever since I got to the Surface, my HP's increased to twenty. I'm good, thanks to Frisky here. Lucky thing Tori taught her how to heal." Papyrus walked over to me and gave me a big hug.

"THANK YOU FRISK FOR HEALING SANS!"

"You're welcome, Papryus," I replied. There was a knock on the door. Mettaton walked over and opened it to find Grillby standing outside. During the massive panic, I managed to text Grillby that Sans and I were back on the Surface.

"Hello, Mettaton. Welcome back," Grillby greeted the robot.

"Hello, darling! I assume you're here to talk to Sans?" Mettaton guessed.

"Sans and Frisk, actually. I want to talk to them outside." Mettaton's eyebrows shot up.

"Sans, Frisk! Grillby wants to talk to the both of you!" Sans looked at me, confused, but we both got up and went outside with the fire elemental.

Once Grillby closed the door, his flames grew brighter and bigger, which meant he was angry. "Sans, why didn't you tell me you and Gaster were sharing the same body?" Grillby interrogated.

"Woah, no need to get heated up over this, Grillbz," Sans said, holding up his hands. I giggled and Grillby sighed.

"Okay, Sans, I know you've told Grillby about what happened, and that's a lot, but that's still not enough. You needed to tell him about Gaster. He's family, Sans-" I was interrupted by a sigh.

"Look, I know where you're going with this, but Papyrus and the others are way too innocent for this kind of stuff, even Undyne!" Sans replied. "Look, I know you think this'll help, but really, what's the use of telling people about my problems?" My jaw fell and raised both eyebrows.

"Seriously? "What's the use?" Sans! If you really think that, then why did you let yourself tell me about your past? Or that you knew about the RESETs? If you really think that, then why did you trust anyone with that information?" Tears brimmed my eyes and Sans saw that. Sans pulled me into a hug and rested his skull on my head.

"Frisk, I'm sorry. I just... I just think telling them could wait."

In the Void, Dadster called, "Gaster!" Badster appeared in front of him.

"Yes, me?"

"Give Sans a horrible nightmare, please." Badster looked startled. He thought Dadster was the better version! "It's the only way to get him talking about his problem."

So that's why, Badster thought.

"And why should I care?" Badster asked.

"Like it or not, we're both his father. We have to do what's best for him." Badster sighed.

"Fine! But just this once!" Badster paused for a second. "And how is the talking to everyone part supposed to work when they're all gonna head home?"

"Did you honestly think I didn't come up with that part before asking you for the favor?"

"You three, inside! There's a snowstorm warning!" Varela informed us.

"Snowstorm? But there's not a cloud in the-" Grillby cut himself off when he saw a large cloud looming overhead.

"Inside it is!" I exclaimed. Sans, Grillby, and I all rushed inside and found Mettaton giving everyone sleeing bags.

"Why're we all sleeping down here?" Sans asked.

"It turns out that it's also a lightning storm. I've never seen any kind of phenomenon like this before! It's best to play it safe," Alphys replied.

Soon, most of us were ready to sleep. Seven out of the eight of us were on the floor, since Sans fell asleep on the couch. I told everyone it was for the best since he didn't sleep in the past twenty four hours. After about five minutes, I fell alseep.

Sans absolutely hated nightmares, but with his kind of luck, he got them that night.

Sans looked around. He was back in Snowdin. In front of him were Papyrus and Chara. Chara cut his head off and Papryus said the words Sans has heard hundreds of times. The nightmare shifted and he was in the Judgement Hall. Chara smiled in front of him.

"Hello, Sans," Chara said.

Huh. Well, that's new, Sans thought.

"Do you wanna know why I'm here?"

"Nah. I already know why-" Sans cut himself on when Chara turned into Gaster.

"Are you sure about that answer?" Gaster asked. He laughed at Sans' shocked face. The Judgement Hall faded to just black. "Welcome, Sans, to the Void."

"W-wha?" Sans stuttered. Gaster laughed again.

"Would you like to see something?" Gaster made a screen appear. Toriel and Asgore were in a meeting. Gaster raised his hand and clenched it. The former king and queen started clawing at their throats. Gaster turned his hand and the two slumped forward, dead.

"No!" Sans yelled.

"Oh, but I'm not done yet!" The screen changed to Alphys and Undyne, who were talking over tea about their wedding. Gaster flicked his hand casually and two bones impaled the two.

"Don't!"

"Let's see another one!" The screen changed again and there was Papyrus, Mettaton, and Varela.

"Don't you dare!" Too late. Gaster make a slicing gesture with his hand, causing Papyrus's head to fall off and dust. Varela screamed in terror. Mettaton stood up, but exploded. Varela cried, but was blasted by a Gaster Blaster. "Stop," Sans pleaded.

"Let's see some more!" The screen changed once more, showing Grillby's. Frisk and Grillby were talking about something, but the converation couldn't be heard.

"Don't you do it-" Sans was cut off when Gaster brought his hand down. Water was sent splashing down on Grillby, killing the fire monster. Frisk jumped up, shocked.

"Look who we have here!" Gaster cackled. "I wonder if she likes buttercups!"

"No!" Gaster held up his hand and closed it. Frisk collapsed, coughing. "Stop it!"

"Fine, I'll stop her suffering." A knife floated in the air and impaled Frisk's chest.

"No!" Sans yelled again. The screen disappeared, leaving Gaster and Sans in silence. Sans' eye sockets became light blue with a hint of yellow. "How could you?!" A Gaster Blaster appeared, but before it could be fired, Sans' wrists and ankles were wrapped in blue strings. He struggled, but nothing happened. He tried using bones and the Gaster Blaster, but nothing changed.

"You always were weak," Gaster snarled. Sans looked up and saw Gaster standing over him. Gaster raised his hand and a bone appeared. He brought his hand down and Sans heard the sound of a SOUL shattering.

I sat up, startled by the thunder. It was like a nuclear bomb going off.

I squinted. A light blue light filled the room. I saw bones and... a Gaster Blaster?

"Sans!" I cried out. His body was ungulfed in light blue fire with touches of yellow here and there. I ran over to the couch. "Sans, wake up!" Nothing happened. Everything started floating.

"Frisk, what's wr- ow!" Undyne yelped, rubbing the spot on her head where the couch hit her.

"What's going on?!" Varela yelled, clawing desperately at the floor to stay on the ground.

"Look!" Alphys exclaimed, pointing at Sans.

"What's wrong with him?" Mettaton asked, worried.

"Papyrus, look out!" Grillby warned. Papyrus ducked, just narrowly avoiding the table.

"WE HAVE TO HELP HIM!" Papyrus exclaimed. I clung onto the couch and reached into the fire, touching Sans' shoulder. Luckily, the fire was cold enough to not burn me.

"Sans, wake up! It's just a nighmare!" I yelled. There was a wave of warmth and I closed my eyes.
I have used the worst power anyone could use- cliffhangers! Mwah ha ha! Knowing that I'm writing these chapters quickly, you wouldn't have to wonder for too long! Ciao!

PS, Undertale belongs to Toby Fox. I only own the story and Varela.
